Syabas buat Singapura..dalam diam2 dah buat satelite sendiri......kena waspada tu!
Satelit Singapura mula beroperasi
2011/05/24
Prof Er bertanggungjawab memulakan program kejuruteraan satelit NTU pada awal 1990-an.
- BERNAMA

SINGAPORE: Singapore has not yet joined the space programme bandwagon but its satellite capability is certainly gaining traction. The Nanyang Technological University has confirmed India's successful launch into space of Singapore's first locally built micro-satellite on Wednesday. University officials said the move did not signify any advanced space programme ambition. Rather, it was a testament to Singapore's enhanced satellite operations. The micro-satellite, named X-SAT, was one of the three that lifted off on board India's Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle PSLV-C16 at 12.42 pm Singapore time on Wednesday. The three satellites, which were launched into orbit 18 minutes after the rocket blasted off from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre launch pad in India, were meant to help scientists study and help manage natural resources. "We are delighted with the successful launch of S...

Singapore's first locally made satellite launched into space

Singapore's first micro-satellite, X-SAT, was launched into space today at 12.42 pm from a space centre in Andhra Pradesh, India.
It was lifted off onboard India's Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle PSLV-C16 from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre.
The X-SAT was developed and built by the Nanyang Technological University (NTU) - in collaboration with DSO National Laboratories.
According to a statement released by NTU, the micro-satellite was one of the two "piggyback" mission satellites loaded on the PSLV-C16 rocket.
The PSLV-C16 successfully inserted the X-SAT into its planned orbit around the Earth.
"We are delighted with the successful launch of Singapore's first experimental micro-satellite into space. This represents a huge leap for our local research and development endeavours in space technology and building micro-satellites," said NTU President Dr Su Guaning.
"We hope that the successful launch of X-SAT will excite and inspire more of our youths to take up engineering, and possibly venture into space technology".
The NTU team members involved in the X-SAT project are currently trying to establish communication contact with the satellite from the Mission Control Station at NTU's Research Techno Plaza.
Once contact with X-SAT is established, an initial health status of the satellite will be ascertained and confirmed.
This experimental micro-satellite carries three payloads, namely an imaging system, an advanced navigation experimental set-up, and a parallel processing unit for image processing experiments.
Weighing 105kg, the X-SAT is designed to demonstrate technologies related to satellite based remote sensing and onboard image processing. It has a mission life of three years.

First locally-built satellite beams images
By Jermyn Chow
THE first photographs taken by Singapore's first locally-built satellite, now orbiting in space, may help scientists better understand the effect environmental changes has on the island.
The micro-satellite X-Sat started beaming live images of Tuas in Singapore's west on May 7, 17 days after it blasted off successfully into space from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in India.
Four days later(May11), photos of Singapore's mainland and its surrounding islands were sent from the 105kg fridge-sized satellite.
The red-and-green photographs - red denotes vegetation while green represents water bodies - taken from 800km above is 'good enough' to measure soil erosion and environmental changes within an area of 50km by 30km, said Associate Professor Low Kay Soon, one of X-Sat's team leaders.
'You don't need fine resolution for environmental monitoring,' said Assoc Prof Low, who is also director of Nanyang Technological University's (NTU) Satellite Research Centre, adding that one can 'roughly recognise the buildings.'
X-Sat's Korean-made camera, Iris, can also capture forest fires and sea pollution, he added.
